$6,644.79 Total Grants Awarded

Case 1:  This case involves a 4-month-old patient who was admitted shortly after birth for congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Patient was born with several life threatening conditions including: respiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension.  These conditions come with significant consequences that patient has to endure including pain, anemia, delayed wound healing and many others.  Due to the severity of patient’s symptoms, they were placed on ECMO for several weeks to support their heart and lungs so their body could heal.  Patient’s level of care cannot be met at any hospital closer to their home.  Patient does not have an anticipated discharge at this time but is projected to be there for several more months.  This critical care has separated the patient from their family and siblings who live 200 miles away.  The family has a limited support system and limited resources available to them.  Both caregivers work full time.  Since the siblings are under the age limits for hospital visitation, it has caused additional childcare barriers for the family.   With the current gas prices, we are estimating that each trip costs the family an average of $50.00.  We estimate that the family will spend at least $600.00 in fuel cost to make the trip to Little Rock once per week.   Any assistance would be truly appreciated.  Therefore, we are requesting for your consideration a TOTAL ask of $600.00 for gas cards.

The committee approved this request.

The committee approved this request.

Case 3: This case involves an infant diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis among other medical issues.  Patient was recently discharged from their fourth admission this year.  Both caregivers work to provide for their two children; however due to the multiple admissions, one caregiver has had to remain bedside while the other caregiver had to remain back to care for sibling.   This has caused a decrease in family’s income and therefore they have gotten behind on their rent, electric, and water bills.   Therefore, we are requesting for your consideration assistance towards the rent ($685.89), electric ($273.90) and water ($45.74).  TOTAL ASK:  $1,005.53

Case 4: This case involves a 29 week gestation patient who was transferred to our NICU and is currently still in the hospital.  We expect the patient to be admitted for several more weeks.   Patient has several medical issues including high ventilator support, shunt placement and an ostomy and a g-tube for feeding.   Due to all of these complex needs, the patient’s primary and main financial caregiver has had to be present for trainings for eventual home care.  The family also has multiple siblings at home including two adult siblings that are trying to find employment to help support family. This has caused family to become behind in their rent for several months and owing over $3000 dollars.  The property owner has been very compassionate about the family’s situation but notes they can no longer continue to allow to remain in the home if they cannot pay the back rent.  Therefore, we are requesting for your consideration assistance of $3,000 towards rent.

The committee approved $1500 to assist with rent. The committee offered another $1500 next month if needed. ACH was invited to communicate with us if an emergency regarding housing rent arises.
