Baby Sharon Committee Meeting On May 2026 Grants

Case 1: This case involves a 12-month-old patient chronic, medically complex child
with, among other things, chronic lung disease and hypoxic encephalopathy, who is
currently admitted. The patient is tracheostomy and ventilator dependent. Their family
resides in the NWA area and are having to commute to Little Rock for training. Once
discharged, they will also have to commute for follow-up care as some of their specialty
appointments cannot be done up in NWA. Due to the need to be at bedside for training,
patient’s caregiver and sole income provider has seen a reduction in their pay leading to
falling behind on their car note. Assistance in getting caught up on this bill is essential
as the car is the family’s sole method of transportation. They would be unable to use
Medicaid transport as they have another minor sibling that cannot ride with them.
Additionally, without their car, the caregiver would not be able to get to work which
would cause a ripple of other issues for this family that can be detrimental including loss
of income and ultimately housing which would lead to patient to be placed in a facility
out of state for safety needs. Therefore, we are submitting for your consideration a
request for $957.51 for their car payment Total Ask: $957.
The committee approved $975for one-month car payment

Case 2: This case involves a 11-month-old patient chronic and medically complex child with Trisomy 18, VSD, and chronic lung disease, who was discharged just this week. The patient has had recurrent admission since April. Due to these admissions, the caregiver has had to miss work which has made maintaining bill and everyday expenses difficult. The patient has several siblings at home as well to help support which has been difficult with caregivers switching off coming to the hospital. Due to this, parents are seeking assistance only for their mortgage payment. This is crucial for the payment as the patient is dependent on a BiPAP (Bilevel Airway Pressure breathing device used to assist with respiration) and other medical equipment that requires safe, stable housing for the patient. If stable housing was not an option, the patient would have to go live in a facility until stable housing could be achieved. Therefore, we submitting for your consideration a request for $2, 920.00 towards their mortgage payment Total Ask: $2, 920.00

The committee approved $2920 for one month’s rent
